Torrey Pines Golf Course is a 36-hole facility owned by the City of San Diego, originally designed by William F. Bell. The South Course was redesigned in 2001 by Rees Jones in preparation for the 2008 U.S. Open and is now 7,698 yards with a par of 72. The North Course is 7,258 yards in length with a par of 72. Guests of The Lodge at Torrey Pines are welcome to enjoy a round on this stunning course with our exclusive golf packages. Located on top of the beautiful coastal bluffs of La Jolla sits the world renowned Torrey Pines Golf Course. With two championship 18-hole courses, guests can take advantage of priority tee times to experience one of the most iconic golf courses.
The Torrey Pines South Course is the more challenging of the two and is the host of the 2008 & 2021 U.S. Open Championships. The South course were originally designed by William Bell, Sr. in 1957 and are home of the Farmers Insurance Open PGA Golf Tournament (along with the North Course). In 2001 and again in 2019, Torrey Pines South Course was renovated and redesigned by Rees Jones. With the most recent renovations Torrey Pines South is longer and plays more difficult, with the South’s teeing areas extending the length of this course to up to 7,800 yards. Golfers must also deal with the distractive view of hang-gliders and para-gliders, soaring and hovering at the edge of the cliffs on the south end of the course.
The Torrey Pines North Course was newly Renovated in 2016 by Tom Weiskopf. It is the host of the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open (along with the South Course). The North Course is shorter and less expensive than its brother. For many, it is more scenic than the South, having more picture-perfect opportunities along the track. The North Course is more popular for the less-experienced golfer but will still put up a good fight for the better ones. The North is bordered on its north end by the Torrey Pines State Reserve.
Torrey Pines was the site of the 2008 U.S. Open Championship, one of the most reputable tournaments in the nation. In 2021, the Championship is scheduled to take place at Torrey Pines Golf Course.
The Farmers Insurance Open is the PGA TOUR’s stop in San Diego, a FedExCup event during the “West Coast Swing” that helps determine the sport’s season-long champion. Beginning in 1952 with the San Diego Open, America’s Finest City has been home to an annual PGA Tour event ever since. The 2019 tournament marks the 53rd time the event was held at Torrey Pines Golf Course and the tenth year of Farmers Insurance sponsorship of the tournament.
